Patient Information

Your specialist will arrange your booking with the hospital and will let you know the date and time of your admission and how long you are expected to stay in hospital. You will also be provided with a booklet providing important pre-admission information.

You will be given an admission form to be filled out and returned to the Procedure Centre at least 3 working days prior to surgery.

Please contact your insurance company to seek prior approval for your surgery and to clarify what is covered under your policy.

  • Time for admission
  • Nothing to eat for at least 6 hours prior to your procedure. You may drink plain water up to 3 hours prior to procedure
  • Arrangements should be made with a friend or relative to drive you home after surgery. You must not driver yourself home or use public transport
  • You should avoid alcohol, cigarettes and drugs (except those prescribed by your doctor) for at least 24 hours before and after your anaesthetic
  • Should you develop any illness eg. cough, cold or skin infection please contact your doctor or APC as it may be necessary to postpone your procedure

What you need to bring:

  • X-rays, scans or test results
  • Current medication including herbal and natural remedies
  • Doctor's letters and reports
  • Insurance prior approval letter
  • Glasses/hearing aid
  • Comfortable loose clothing
  • Do not bring any jewellery or valuables as we do not accept responsibility for their safe keeping

Children having surgery

Your child's comfort and well-being are important to us and visiting the Procedure Centre before admission to familiarise you both with the surroundings is recommended.
We encourage parents and caregivers to stay with their child and you may like to bring in a favourite toy and any special items that assist in comforting your child.
We recommend that, if possible, you do not bring other children with you.

Post-operative care

After the procedure you will be offered refreshments and given adequate time to recuperate before dressing and returning home.

Before you leave the specialist and nurses will advise yyou of what to expect as you recover.
You will be given an information sheet with discharge instructions and follow-up doctor's appointment.

It is recommended that during the first 24 hours following your procedure you should:

  • Have a responsible adult to stay with you overnight
  • Not drive a motor car
  • Not make any important decisions or sign important documents
  • Not be the primary child carer

Payment of account

  • You will receive accounts from:
  • Your specialist
  • Your anaesthetist (where applicable)
  • Anglesea Procedure Centre

Payment of accounts can be made by cash or cheque
and we accept Visa, Mastercard or EFTPOS.

Parking

Parking is available in the Knox Clinic carpark. In busy times parking is also available in Knox St or in the public car park opposite.

Smoking

There is a no smoking policy in place that prohibits smoking anywhere in the building or near any entrances.
